About the Variation Series

(2014 - ongoing)

The Variation series is a slowly growing series of works following the pace of the Construction series.

Each time a Construction is produced, there are a number of leftover blocks. These extras are decided by the laws of production, the movements of the blade and the size of a slab of stone. They present a challenge to find a sculptural identity for exactly this random set of stones.

The name of the series is derived from the first Variation, when Conrad built 41 different variations with the 41 available stones, before settling on the final sculpture. The roman number always corresponds to the Construction it is derived from.
